All Lanes of Southbound SR-163 at Clairemont Mesa Boulevard to Close for Night Work
SAN DIEGO—All lanes of southbound State Route 163 (SR-163) north of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard will close from Wednesday at 11 p.m. to Thursday at 4:30 a.m. so construction crews can install a new overhead sign structure over the highway.
All vehicles will be detoured to westbound State Route 52, then to southbound Interstate 805, to the southbound SR-163 connector ramp. Portable Changeable Message Signs will be placed in advance of the detour to alert motorists of the closure.
This is the second and final phase of the City of San Diego’s Clairemont Mesa Boulevard/SR-163 reconstruction project. The first phase was completed in 2007.
The second phase of the $11 million project, scheduled to be completed this summer, includes reconstructing the westbound Clairemont Mesa Boulevard on-ramp to SR-163 and widening Clairemont Mesa Boulevard from four lane to six lanes between SR-163 and Kearny Mesa Road. This phase also includes the removal of the southbound SR-163 loop off-ramp to westbound Clairemont Mesa Boulevard and replacing it with a four-lane ramp at a signalized intersection.
Motorists are reminded to watch for highway workers and moving construction equipment in the project area. The work schedule is subject to change depending on weather conditions.Follow @SDCaltrans on Twitter at www.twitter.com/SDCaltrans and visit Caltrans District 11 on Facebook at www.facebook.com/CaltransDistrict11
