Two-Day Closure of State Route 78 Near Glamis Begins Monday
Lengthy Detours Extend 70 Miles, Motorists Urged to Plan Ahead
EL CENTRO, Calif.—State Route 78 (SR-78) will be closed at the Union Pacific railroad crossing just east of the Glamis Beach Store and Ted Kipf Road in Glamis for two consecutive days beginning Monday at 5 a.m. until Wednesday at 5 a.m. The closure is needed for emergency track repair by the Union Pacific Railroad.
Motorists will be able to access SR-78 in both directions up to either side of the construction zone, however there will be no through-access.
Access to the Glamis Sand Dunes will be maintained via eastbound SR-78 from State Route 115 (SR-115).
Detour signs will be posted to guide motorists on westbound SR-78 to exit at Ogilby Road in Winterhaven and continue south to westbound or eastbound Interstate 8 (I-8).
Motorists on eastbound SR-78 will be detoured to exit at SR-115 in the community of Orita, a few miles north of Holtville, and to continue south to westbound or eastbound I-8.
Motorist are urged to plan ahead and allow extra time for out-of-the-way travel. The lengthy detours extend more than 70 miles.
