CALTRANS PLAYS CRITICAL ROLE IN BATTLING
DESTRUCTIVE BUTTE FIRE IN CALAVERAS COUNTY

CALAVERAS COUNTY – When wildfire strikes in California, Caltrans joins the ranks of emergency responders and is among one of the first to arrive and the last to leave, long after the final flame has been extinguished.

In this Caltrans News Flash, spokesman Rick Estrada ventures into the fire zone to give us a glimpse into the department’s commitment to maintain roadways to get firefighters and equipment to the blaze and to help residents evacuate.

The ongoing Butte Fire has blackened 70,000 acres and destroyed more than 450 buildings, figures that would be even higher if not for the quick actions and commitment from Caltrans’ workers to keep vital travel ways open.
